"Specially made for Chas. A. Heyer & Co., Nairobi" marked on barrel. Chas. A. Heyer & Co. was a prominent gunsmith and sporting goods retailer based in Nairobi, British East Africa, in the early 20th century, operated by German hunter Charles A. Heyer. (1870-1931) Known for importing high-quality Mauser rifles. Barrel marked "7x57 H.V. (High velocity) The 7x57mm Mauser is often called 7mm Mauser or .275 Rigby. Vintage German bolt action rifle, receiver and bolt with crown over "U", crown over "A", crown over "G" proofs. Features blued finish, plum colored bolt, walnut stock, 24" tapered round barrel, blade/bead front sight in ramp, notch rear sight with one standing and two folding leaf for 100, 200 and 300 meters, charger guide, manual safety, serrated composition "Mauser" buttplate, narrow swivels, bent bolt, early style floorplate with lever release. Stock is European styled, slender, curved grip with metal cap, checkered wrist, shadow line cheek rest for right-handed shooting. Matching serial number on barrel, receiver, bolt, flag safety lever, bolt lug and bolt release. Bore is good condition, lightly frosted throughout with strong rifling. Retains about 85% blued finish with edge losses, handling wear. Receiver marked "Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf". Markings are sharp and even. Wood is very good overall with no chips or dents. Action is smooth. Some photocopied photos and information of Heyer included.
